Announcement FIRA 2018 - Change of Venue

Taichung, Taiwan, 3rd - 12th August 2018

Due to an error, the originally planned venue in Denmark (Stenhaus High School in Halboek) is double booked with a volleyball tournament for August 2018. There is little time left before FIRA 2018, and I believe that we do not have the luxury of being able to compensate for more issues. I think that we need to use an experienced team on site, that can secure a venue quickly, can find suitable accommodations, build playing fields, PR, social program accommodation, and find the budget to host FIRA 2018.

So after considering all options, Prof. Kuo-Yang Tu, Christine Kim, and myself decided to move the FIRA 2018 to Taichung, Taiwan and to appoint Prof. Tu as local chair. So, FIRA 2018 will be held in Taichung, Taiwan from 3rd - 12th August 2018. (3rd - 5th FIRA Frontier Camp).

I know it may come as a disappointment to many of you that we will be in Taiwan two years in a row, but Prof. Tu has put in a lot of work and managed to secure a great venue and good financial support, so that I am sure that all teams will enjoy FIRA 2018 in Taichung, Taiwan. Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben, is a German saying that roughly translates to "postponed not mean canceled." So we hope that we will be able to host FIRA in Denmark in the future and we encourage the LOC of Denmark to present a more fleshed out proposal sometime in the future.

Welcome to the Federation of International Robot-Sport Association

Robot soccer can be portrayed as a competition of advanced robot technology within a confined space. It offers a challenging arena to the young generation and researchers working with autonomous mobile robotic systems. It is hoped that FIRA’s flagship event, called the FIRA Robot World Cup (or the FIRA Cup in short), which started in 1996, together with many other FIRA events, will help generate interests in robotics in the young minds.

Through these events, FIRA hopes to help them better understand and appreciate, with interests, the scientific concepts and technological developments involved. FIRA believes that some of these interests will fuel scientific and engineering skills that ultimately develop into research outcomes to serve mankind in a variety of ways.

Ever since its establishment, FIRA has had venues for its annual FIRA Cup in Australia, Brazil, China, France and Korea. Making progress over successive years since 1996, FIRA Cup has now attained world recognition as a robot festival.
